I would never want any prayer that would not make the virtues grow within me.

Devotion to Jesus Eucharistic will be, and is for me the source of patience, of perseverance, of refuge, of consolation. It is literally the very source of my life. Without this mystery of the Savior's love left us in the Church, I would have been lost long ago.

Do not imagine that love can be found without suffering, for we carry with us our human nature; and yet, what a source of merit it is!

Souls will be unable to reach perfection who do not strive to be content with having nothing, in such fashion that their natural and spiritual desire is satisfied with emptiness; for this is necessary in order to reach the highest tranquility and peace of spirit. Hence the love of God in the pure and simple soul is almost continually in act.

What we need most in order to make progress is to be silent before this great God with our appetite and with our tongue, for the language he best hears is silent love.

Some people -- and it is sad to see them -- work and tire themselves greatly, and yet go backward; they look for progress in what brings no progress but instead hinders them. Others, in peace and tranquility, continue to advance well. Some others let themselves be encumbered by the very consolations and favors God bestows on them for the sake of their advancing, and they advance not at all.

If you do not learn to deny yourself, you can make no progress in perfection.

In general, the reason why many souls have no love or inclination towards virtue is that they harbor affections and desires which are neither innocent nor directed wholly towards God.

As long as this attachment remains, it is impossible to make progress in perfection, even though the imperfection be very small. It makes little difference whether a bird is tied by a thin thread or by a cord. Even if it is tied by a thread, the bird will be held bound… it will be impeded from flying as long as it does not break the thread.

My God, I offer you all that I do today for the intentions and the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I want to sanctify every beat of my heart, my thoughts, and my simplest works by uniting them to his infinite merits. I want to repair for my faults by casting them into the furnace of his merciful love.

Justice itself, even more than any other divine perfection, seems to me to be clothed in love.

In this night the soul obtains these four benefits here mentioned, namely, delight of peace, constant remembrance of God, purity and cleanness of soul, the practice of all the virtues of which I have just spoken.
