If individuals resolutely submit to carrying the cross, if they decidedly want to find and endure trial in all things for God, they will discover in all of them great relief and sweetness.

It is by the Blood of the cross that He will make peace in my little heaven, so that it may truly be the repose of the Three. He will fill me with Himself; He will bury me with Him; He will make me live again with Him, by His life.

We do not climb Calvary as heroes, like the champion who has won the race. A saint is not a hero: he is someone filled with God and with God's strength.

We look at ourselves too much ... we do not have enough trust in Him who enfolds us in His love. We must not stand in front of our cross and examine it in itself, but withdrawing into the light of faith,we must rise above it and consider that it is the instrument of Divine Love.

We can assume that the prospect of the faithful who would follow Him on His way of the cross strengthened the Savior during His night on the Mount of Olives. And the strength of these cross-bearers helps Him after each of His falls.

There is no wood like that of the cross for lighting the fire of love in the soul! And Jesus needs to be loved and to find in the world, where He is so offended, souls that are given, wholly surrendered to Him and His good pleasure!

What did You possess, my Lord, but trials, sufferings, and dishonor?...In sum, my God, it does not fit those of us who want to be your true children, and hold on to their inheritance, to flee suffering. Your heraldry consists of five wounds.

The pathway of the incarnate Son of God winds around the cross and suffering until it comes to the glory of the resurrection. And for each of us, for all humanity, the way is joined to that of the Son of God through suffering and death, to the glory of the resurrection.

Crucified inwardly and outwardly with Christ, you will live in this life with fullness and satisfaction of soul, and possess your soul in patience.

Our Lord thirsts for our love. He suffered from Bethlehem to Calvary and forged chains by which to live in the tabernacle together with us. Don't we have a little love for this Divine Beggar?

In truth, it is impossible that a heart which can find rest only in contemplation of the Tabernacle-and yours is such, you tell me- could so far offend Our Lord as not to be able to receive Him. . . . What does offend Jesus, what wounds Him to the Heart, is want of confidence.

More effective than the mortification one practices according to one's own choice is the cross that God lays upon one, exteriorly and interiorly.
