The meek are those who know how to suffer their neighbor and themselves.

He (God) lives in some as though in his own house, commanding and ruling everything; and in others as though a stranger in a strange house, where they do not permit him to give orders or do anything.

They must be content simply with a loving and peaceful attentiveness to God, and live without concern, without effort, and without the desire to taste or feel him.

It is best to learn to silence the faculties and to cause them to be still so that God may speak.

Take God for your spouse and friend and walk with him continually, and you will not sin and will learn to love, and the things you must do will work out prosperously for you.

If the inordinate love increases, then, as will be seen, the soul will grow cold in the love of God, and owing to the recollection of that other love, forget Him- not without the feeling of some remorse of conscience. On the other hand, as the love of God increases, the soul will grow cold in the inordinate affection and come to forget it.

Keep in mind what the apostle St. James says: If any man thinks himself to be religious and does not control his tongue, that man's religion is useless." (James 1:26) This is to be understood of inward as well as outward chatter.

Since a double measure of bitterness must follow the doing of your own will, do not do it even though you remain in single bitterness.

God communicates Himself to the soul in this interior union with a love so intense that the love of a mother who tenderly caresses her child, the love of a brother or the affection of a friend bears no resemblance to it.

There You will show me
What my soul has been seeking,
And then You will give me,
You, my Life, will give me there
What You gave me on that other day:

The breathing of the air,
The song of the sweet nightingale,
The grove and its living beauty
In the serene night,
With a flame that is consuming and painless.

Although he is not displeased with other souls that have not reached this union, for after all they are in the state of grace, yet insofar as they are not well disposed his dwelling is secret to them, even though he does dwell in them.

Death can hold no bitterness for the soul that loves. It brings with it all the sweetness and delights of love. There is no sadness in the remembrance of it when it opens the door to all joy.
